Overview

A lot of my friends write reflective summaries of the past year so I thought I would too.

Overall

In some ways 2024 was a crappy year for many of us.

It was OK for me as long as I ignore the dire political situation – which, of course, I can’t.

Well, not entirely.

The election of Trump makes the nightmare real.

As a seventy-nine years and nine months old super annuitant, the tax rebate that was designed by the government to improve my life immeasurably – $279 a week was promised to encourage me to vote National – turned out to be more like $1.28 a week plus an unanticipated redesign of how superannuation is calculated that has left me considerably worse off than before.

I’m a bottom feeder though so nobody really cares.

Work has been impossible to get, and, despite damn good qualifications, awards, and experience, the education system has no role for an elderly transgender person with unique experience and skills. The jobs I missed out on all went to staff already employed in the schools I applied to, and I wish them all well. The education system will experience hard times in 2025, and they’ll get worse, so we need to keep the pressure on this ideologically driven, extremist government. I love schools of all sorts, and teachers are the best, but it’s all at risk from a few unqualified clowns who think they know best.

They don’t.

So, given everything, it’s been a financially deteriorating year for us.

Apart from the money and the government, it’s been a largely fun twelve months with some excellent stories waiting to be told.

I’ve divided the year into two parts: The Good Shit and The Bad Juju.

I’ll post it all on my Dykiegirl WordPress blog.
